Lake Basile 7/14

I picked up my new kayak cart last weekend so I decided to put it to use today and hike in to Basile for a kayak trip. Of course the paved bike path doesn't make it a very difficult hike especially when you have one of these... [img:e57e50e18d]http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/5472/dscf0019de.jpg[/img:e57e50e18d] This is what it looks like with the yak on it and then broken down and stowed behind my kayak seat. [img:e57e50e18d]http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/5178/dscf0020ld.jpg[/img:e57e50e18d] [img:e57e50e18d]http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/6526/dscf0021cm.jpg[/img:e57e50e18d] When I arrived at Basile and launched el fuego it was about 7:45am and it was already starting to get hot. The sky was a bit hazy from the heat and the water was calm. [img:e57e50e18d]http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/1681/dscf0022i.jpg[/img:e57e50e18d] I decided to start off throwing a paddle foot soft zoom horny toad to see how the topwater bite was. I threw that at the shoreline weeds for a bit and got nothing. After about a half hour of nothing I decided to switch it up and start throwing a wacky senko in deeper water along the weedline. It didn't take me long to get my first largemouth which was a short. Then my second one was a keeper and just under 15" [img:e57e50e18d]http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/4250/dscf0024uo.jpg[/img:e57e50e18d] I stuck with the senko for a while because the frogs just didn't seem to be working for me. I probably landed another 14 or 15 on senkos after that before the senko bite slowed down. Here's a couple of the keepers...Oh yeah I was testing out my new Hawg Trough too ;) [img:e57e50e18d]http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/9132/dscf0032bd.jpg[/img:e57e50e18d] [img:e57e50e18d]http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/9156/dscf0034x.jpg[/img:e57e50e18d] [img:e57e50e18d]http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/3222/dscf0039tf.jpg[/img:e57e50e18d] I started seeing fish leaping from the water at about 11:00am. They were scanning topwater for dragonflies. I decided to give the horny toad another try. I'm glad I did...I boated another five bass on the next five casts. After a few more hooksets my frog was shredded so I tied on my new big foot scum frog. I loved the paddle action and so did the fish apparently. They litterally ate it up... [img:e57e50e18d]http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/4575/dscf0056xl.jpg[/img:e57e50e18d] [img:e57e50e18d]http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/846/dscf0057yo.jpg[/img:e57e50e18d] I ended up landing a total of 32 largemouth today. The biggest one being my first keeper of the day which was a 14"er. I got off the water at around 1:45pm and was happy about my trip. Got a lot of heavy hooksets out of my system. The only downside was that some of the fish were so small they went for a ride on a few of those hooksets :D

Nice! Setting the hook on dozens of largemouth bass never gets old to me. I wish that I could have joined you.

That's a sweet kayak cart! I am considering getting a canoe soon because my bass boat just can't get into some smaller places, especially ones with carry top only. I'm assuming that it would work for canoes too? Awesome day of fishing!
