Penfield Reef 7/27

Got out of work around 8pm and headed for the reef only 2 miles away. Fished from 8:30pm-10pm. High tide was around 6:40pm, a time during the tide I'm not normally fishing, but it was around sunset and I was down the road. When I got there the tide was high and I couldn't walk out to far, walked a little past the end of the jetty. The bite was on when I got there. Second cast I had a blue, small but a little bigger than two days ago. I caught 3 blues in the first 20-25 minutes. Two days ago it took me two plus hours to get just 2 blues. These were all taken on a small popper and my flat rap. I caught the 3 blues on the opposite side from where I normally fish, but they were there, so I was there. After the fish moved and it was pitch dark I moved to the bpt side, unusually more choppy. After a while working my popper I get a huge splash, jump, and miss! Thats the problem sometimes u just don't get the fish. I didn't really have a shot, the fish just missed the lure, I think. Very frustrating. Anyway I wasn't leaving until I catch another fish. Got no more hits with the popper so switched back to the flat rap. Finally about 20 minutes later I get another blue, same size. Casted as I worked my way back, so I ended up with 4 small blues. That's a total of 29 bluefish, 2 striped bass, 1 fluke at the reef my last 5 or 6 times. I went weeks without a blue in late June! The blues have been very feisty and jump a lot trying to shake the hook, fun to catch, I'm glad they've been around, although it's slowing down, can't wait for the big ones to come in.
