Naugy River tour 8/12

On Sunday, Rangerskid (Kevin) and I decided to head out under the falls in Seymour because I was determined to finally catch a smallmouth this year. I had been there twice and caught nothing but damn fallfish and a couple small trout. We got out there just after 10am and went on the other side from the old middle school (under the apartment complex). I began throwing a wacky Senko which has yet to completely fail me anywhere. Kevin threw a green spinnerbait,. On my third cast or so I hooked into quite a fighter. This fish jumped out of the water at least 5 times and was a hell of a time. I know they say SMB fight like crazy and now I believe it. When I got it in and measured it was 15" and just over 2lb. Much bigger than I was expecting to find! That was upsetting. Kevin ended up just getting a bunch of bites but no fish. After a quick lunch at McDonalds we went down to the river in Derby behind BJ's and under the riverwalk. We started right under Division st. I was still going after SMB and threw a senko, spinnerbait, and small 2" worm that I jigged off the bottom. We got a couple hit but nothing caught. We decided to move about 75 yards down towards BJ's. Kevin called me over to his spot saying he had a couple hits. By the time I got over there he had pulled out a white perch (I think) on a rooster tail. We were both very surprised as neither of us had ever caught one and we did not expect to catch them there. By the time I could tie on a rooster tail of my own he had pulled in 5 more stripers. All between 12-18". We then waded out about a third of the way in and kept hitting fish. Over the next 90 minutes or so we pulled out a total of 20 fish. he caught 8 stripers, 1 WP, and 1 sunny. I caught 5 stripers, 2 YP, 1 sunny, 1 WP, and 1 fallfish. All these were caught on small rooster tails. I didn't get pics of most because I left my phone on shore when we waded out. I would say the biggest striper caught was about 20" or so. Here are a couple pictures. I caught 6 different species which was pretty cool especially since they all basically came the same way. We hit the road a little after 4pm.

That's awesome! I like it when I can catch a variety of fish, too. You'd love Hamburg Cove in the Spring.
