Penfield Reef 7/14

I fished the reef from 5pm-8:45pm. Low tide was around 3:30pm. When I got there the snappers were around, caught several while looking for bigger fish. The first 2 hours was real slow just snappers and sea robins then all of a sudden I see bluefish breaking 50yards out from me and get my first blue of the day on a small popper. About 18", several inches bigger than a couple weeks ago. I would end up catching 5 more blues in the next 30 minutes including 3 blues on 3 strait casts with a kastmaster. All fish were about the same size. As quick as they had arrived, they were gone. The bite completely died off and I packed it in as it went dark. I totaled 6 bluefish, much better than the two or so I was averaging the last couple times out. All bluefish were caught on a kastmaster spoon, and a small popper, although when I first got there I tried about 10 lures(several small and medium poppers, Red Fin, SP Minnow) including catching sea robins with my flat rap, and small snappers on small poppers as well.

I think I was out there with you, primarily fishing off the opposite side of the reef (the guy closest to land). I picked up several fluke earlier in the day, and a couple of doormats last week. Once the blues came around they started tearing up the softbaits on the end of my bucktails. The bite was very decent yesterday, I need to try and get back down there. p.s. If anyone finds my 1oz white SPRO bucktail just off the beach on the left, you're welcome :) .

Lamar- Yeah I think I know who you are, there were really only 5 or 6 fisherman out on the reef last night, so I pretty much remember everyone that was out there. You didn't come out to far correct? And I ended up fishing the latter part of the night fishing with a guy named Mark whom I've met many times out on the reef. And at one time you were lined up along side us, right? And between Mark and I we caught almost a dozen fish in a real short time. Did you get in on that action? Next time I'll introduce myself.
