Biggest blue I caught at the reef this year
Message:
Went back to the reef for low tide and fished from 6:30-9pm. A day after catching my biggest striper at the reef, I catch my biggest bluefish at the reef this year, just a little shorter than the 28" striper it was around 27", then caught another but smaller. The first 27" blue gave me a great little fight, making several runs, rod bent in half, lots of splashing. 2nd best fight I've had this year. The second blue shook a hook in my hand as I was releasing him. Very feisty, even took my lure on his second jump. I strictly fished topwater today and yesterday using only my small poppers. I had to do lots of walking and trying to find the fish, both today and yesterday. It looks like bigger fish are starting to move in, although the catching in numbers are much less compared to the schools of smaller (12'-20') blues I've been catching, these fish are not as schooled up, but most are bigger and all action took place inside a 20 minute period. I am always happy when I catch at least 2 decent fish.

What color are your poppers? I fished at Hammanossette last with sardine popper, clacking minnow, escape minnow, subwalk rapala but no hit. My buddy threw out his soft plastic minnow and fish on in 3 jerks huge striper, we could see the whole body by the side then got tangled with his other chunked rod and fish on.
