Bunnells Pond 8/23
Message:
Got an early start around 6:45am at Bunnells Pond Thursday. Brought a combination of topwaters and crankbaits with me and casted with my 6' Black Eagle/South Bend WTC220 combo. Started off at the island facing towards the dam. Lures I threw there included a chartreuse ghost X-Rap Walk XRW-9, pearl grey shiner X-Rap Popper XRP-7, brown bone Dives To Fat 1, shad Shallow Shad Rap SSR-7, yellow perch Flat Rap FLR-8, copperhead X-Rap Shad Shallow XRSHSS-6, bleeding pearl Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4, custom painted Dives To Fat 3, pearl grey shiner Clackin Crank CNC-53, and custom painted Jointed J-9. The Flat Rap and bleeding pearl Jointed Shad Rap were what captured the attention of most sunnies and tiny bass no bigger than 2". While I was still on the island I casted parallel towards the bridge with an original pearl shad Flat Rap FLR-8. Caught a chubby 13" largemouth just over a pound. Decided to stick mostly with the Flat Rap and Jointed Shad Rap with a few other lures in the mix. Had a feeling it was a metallic non-holographic pearl grey color they were looking for. Later when I got to the rocks and was seeing breaks on the surface with tiny little splashes in that same area, I casted the same Flat Rap out there. Pretty soon after it hit the water a fish comes up for it. Set the hook and was feeling a nice tug. Landed a chubby 17" 2 pound 15 ounce largemouth. Size of the mouth and girth can only show it in the pic. Kept on moving on but had no more luck so I moved on up the Pequonnock.
