What's going on with boating forecast??
Message:
Was anyone out on the sound yesterday? I made plans to take some folks out fishing early in the AM and checked the forecast on the news, on SeaTow's phone app, and on weather underground. All said waves less than a foot in the sound. So we head out at 6am and got thrashed! The waves were relentless and approaching four feet with some impressive sets. We tried fishing for a while but it was way too much and headed back into a river but they actually got sick on the way in. Others that came out after us all seemed to pull up and leave before us and I've never seen so many other boats fishing in the mouth of the river seeking shelter from the boiling sound.
Today the forecast is the same, waves less than a foot, but I don't feel like taking another trip down just to find out that it's so wildly different than reported. It's ridiculous that they can be that far off with the reporting of conditions.

Hi TS,
FYI:
When the wind (even light winds) comes from the SE to SW, the ocean and sound will be rough because its coming on to the shore line.
And the outgoing tide plus currents don't help either because the wind is opposing the water flow direction.
Wind from the W to N -> is blowing off shore so the water will mostly be calmer!
Best regards,

Seems like that would be common sense. Also seems that people that are paid to do this as a career would know this and could get come up with a report that more closely resembled actual conditions.
