Fall River Stripers
Message:
After a few dinkers last weekend and a few lossed/missed schoolies, I decided to get out today after work. This time I brought the old lady with me. It was super low and crystal clear at first. Then the dam opened up, the water turned brown, and was rising rapidly. So we headed down river.
We arrived, the water was low, and again crystal clear. As we were wading out, you could see the wall of brown water comin towards us, and quickly took over the clear pool we were walking towards. Within a few minutes, the water was again high and brown, moving fast enough to make it hard to walk quickly. We took a few casts before I exclaimed "we're all done"
"What do you mean?" she asked.
"Water's too high and dark, the fish are gonna have a hard time seeing our lures" Not 15 seconds after I said that, she sets the hook into a fish. "Oh! I got one!" She shouted to me, just before it started peeling off line. After about 10 minutes of fighting the fish, I seen what it was. A striper. So i got behind her, and carefully guided her backwards through the rushing water and slippery rocks so we could land it for a picture. What started as an iffy day on the Farmington River going for smallmouth and perch resulted in this:

If I had to make an estimate, I'd have to say around 25-26 inches and somewhere between 5 and 7 pounds. The fish was pulled in on 4lb test line through fast current on her "lucky" custom pink and green rod. Aside of the handful of double digit-sized carp and numerous trophy trout she's taken on it already, its another impressive fish to add to the list.
