Glass Minnow HJ-6 is a KILLER!!!
Message:
Headed down to Seaside Park Friday afternoon. Arrived at the cannon around 1:45pm and high for Bridgeport was scheduled for 4:44pm. Lures I tried throwing on my schoolie setup included shiner Shallow Shad Rap SSR-9, olive green Clackin Minnow CNM-9, spotted minnow Saltwater X-Rap SXR-10, flake blue Max Rap MXR-15, chrome Skitter Pop SP-9, and purpledescent Flat Rap FLR-10. Nothing ever touched all lures. Never got a follower on any. The only thing I saw was a small swirl behind the SP-9. Finally decided to switch over to my light action freshwater setup and go to work with the snappers. My usual trusty lure, the glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-6, was the one doing it. After landing close to 20 snappers on the HJ-6 and losing plenty things slowed down at the peak of high tide. Moved over to the rocky stretch and casted with my schoolie setup but had no luck. I decided to take a break to cool down and rehydrate Downtown at 5:26pm. After cooling down and resting with something to drink, I went to Remington around 6:30pm. Threw most of the lures I had thrown at the cannon, including a purpledescent Clackin Rap CNR-8 but nothing ever happened. Went back to the HJ-6 with my light action freshwater setup and was into those snappers! Things quieted down around 8pm even though there were still some small breaks on the surface. Hit the road around 8:30pm. Landed a total of over 20 snappers with the biggest being a chunky 12". Kept my limit of bigger ones in the 9 to 12 inch range. The glass minnow Rapala Husky Jerk HJ-6 was outdoing other snapper fishermen as usual. Fish after fish on the hook including 2 doubles! One other fish I saw prowling the surface was a gar. 2 men chunking at Remington were going to town with the snappers on lighter gear and were using small pieces of CHICKEN!!!!!
