Pequonnock River Bpt 9/16
Message:
After fishing Bunnells Pond, I headed up to the upper part of Beardsley Park along the Pequonnock. Played around with the JSR-4, crawdad Shallow Shad Rap SSR-7, and glass perch Husky Jerk HJ-8. One area had redbreasts and bluegills following the HJ-8 and JSR-4. Another area I caught a 7" yellow on the JSR-4. Moved to a few other spots as I made my way back down river but never got into anything else. Later after stopping to grab a drink and relax at Duchess, I went to the Wonderland of Ice. Lures I played with there were a hot steel Shallow Shad Rap SSR-7, custom painted red tiger Jointed J-7, and the JSR-4. Lost a small redbreast on the JSR-4 and had a few followers on all 3 lures. Later I saw a nice largemouth sitting around on the edge. It followed the SSR-7 but didn't hit it. Once it got back to the same spot it was resting in, I decided to play topwater with it. First lure I took out was a custom made wooden Woodchopper lure. Casted the lure past the bass and reeled in some. Once I got closer to it I did a light jerk and pause on the surface. Once it got right near the bass, I saw the fish turn towards the lure. One more jerk with the bass looking at it and fish on! Got it closer to me and lost what looked to be a 2 to 3 pound largemouth when it jumped :( Walked up the hill that leads you to Bunnells Pond by the dam from the Wonderland of Ice. Took about 10 casts with the JSR-4 and lost a chubby 1 or 1 1/2 pound largemouth and a small bluegill. Last stop was Glenwood Park. Caught a baby striper and lost a dinky redbreast with the JSR-4. Played with a hot pink tube for a while and had many small largemouths and sunnies pick it up and drop it. Hit the road around 7:20pm.
