Connecticut River - Middletown/Portland (9/30)

Haven't posted a report in a while and haven't really gotten a chance to really fish lately so I figured I would post a report. I wanted to fish yesterday but unfortunately didn't have the time, and it rained earlier in the day. Got out on the water around 7:45am and launched at the Rocky Hill Ferry Launch.
For anyone who hasn't been there, it can be crowded at times but it's a beautiful place to launch.

Sometimes during the year they do charge a ridiculous fee of $30, but not right now.
The temperature was in the upper 50's climbing to the lower 60's. I didn't check the water temp right away, but when I was getting off the water at 1:30pm it was 63 degrees. The wind was between 3 and 5 mph all day which was great.
I used two setups today, a heavy setup with my new SPRO BBZ 1 Jointed Slow Sinking Swim Bait (BlueBack Herring Color) and a regular Strike King series square bill crank on my medium baitcaster setup.

This was the first time using the SPRO series type bait. I landed my first Pike with it which turned out to be the biggest of the day for me at 26".

I switched back and forth with setups throughout the day. The rest of the fish were caught on my square bill. My buddy caught a LMB and a nice size Pickerel, around 22"-23".

Throughout the day I boated another Pike that was a bit smaller than the 26", that was probably 3-4" smaller. Although you can't tell from the picture, but this one was really colorful.

2 LMB (shorts less than 12"), my first White Perch of the year (go figure?), and a 20" or so Pickerel. The picture says 21" but I didn't straighten out the fin.

I cruised back to the launch and got back around 1:30pm or so. It felt good to finally get out and spend some time on the water. I enjoy the cool weather much more than the summer weather!

Nice, Steve! I'm liking hard swimbaits more and more. I know that I have one of those Spro swimbaits, somewhere. I'm going to have to find it.
