CT river carp fishing Fall 2012

Hey guys its been a while since I posted a carp fishing report so here one is. My buddies and I decided it was time to get to work with the colder weather coming and bringing the water temps down. When the water temps go down carp really start feeding to bulk up for the winter. We spent hours preparing a bunch of bait and tying up rigs and eventually worked our way out to the river. At first we had maybe been a little early as the water was still pretty warm and was steaming at night as it was warmer than the air. The bite hadnt really picked up much yet but we managed to catch a few fish and the first two photos are from when the water was still warm which it is not now. This fish is interesting with the larger fins, I believe its called some kind of fantail hybrid. Its a mirror carp which is rare here on the connecticut river and is the first one we have seen on the connecticut river since we have been fishing for carp which goes back 2 to 4 years depending on which one of my buddies your talkin about. Mirror carp are more common in the connecticut river up in Mass and Vermont and New Hampsire. Notice the scales arent of equal size and uniform like your normal common carp. Mirror carp have unique scale patterns that very in size and placement and are unique to each fish. This fish came in at 18+ lbs. [img:df26a8c0aa]http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u632/dmb0741/7558B9AF-170B-4A3A-98EF-80609E7B57E5-9983-000008BDC84E3C3E_zpsb09a8ace.jpg[/img:df26a8c0aa] Now that the water has cooled down some and the days are getting shorter and the nights longer the carp fishing is getting better and is a great way to go fishing close to home and have a 12' rod bend in half and half a screaming drag. You dont need a 12' rod to catch carp but that just illustrates the power behind these fish and the battle it is to catch them.

Nice fish. I'm still hoping to accidentally snag a carp while fishing from my kayak one day.
