TMA 10/16

Member Mikeyinstfd (Mike) and I hit the Mill River TMA Tuesday morning and afternoon. Arrived around 9:30am.
Our first stop was the large pool that always gets stocked and fished heavily. Mike was throwing a bubble gum Berkley Trout Worm and was getting lots of quick hits from the trout. His Berkleys were getting beaten up by those trout. He caught a brown around 10".
I started off with a brown trout Flat Rap FLR-6 but never had any followers or hits. Next lure was my trusty glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-6. The HJ-6 had many fish turned on but they'd follow it, swipe it, circle it, and leave. Had 2 hits and caught a rainbow around 10".
Mike also tried throwing a Rooster Tail which had the trout following and he had 2 hits. I tried throwing a 1" soft plastic crayfish, 1" hot pink tube, and hot mustard muddler X-Rap XR-4 but had nothing interested.
After fishing that 1 area for a while and only landing those 2 trout, we headed farther down stream to other popular spots. Saw a lady fly fishing and said she was landing a few small natives. Her fly was a floating yellow egg.
We saw a few trout in some spots but never had any luck. I had 2 followers on the HJ.
Hit the road around 1:30pm.
Something I saw going on in the popular area was what seemed to be brown trout spawning. Saw browns chasing each other, swirling together on the surface, and going a bit downstream over the shallow rocks before coming back up into the main pool.
Live shiners I think would have gotten them to hit better than the lures we were throwing. They were attracted to something on the shiny side with a silver, white, or gray color. Anything else other than a small worm or mealie wouldn't work.
