Jumbo Shrimp around here?
Message:
Is it common for jumbo shrimp to be around here or is it yet another warm weather freak thing? Walking the beach in Fairfield and saw something out of the corner of my eye in the sand and low and behold there is about a 4 1/2" shrimp squirming there about 20' from shore. I grabbed it, pulled out a long hook used for rigging sluggos and tossed it out there. 10 minutes later my line ripped off my reel of my baitrunner. Either I had a nick in my line or it rubbed me on some oysters as it broke me off before the leader with 20 lb Ande line. I hadnt brought bait with me, just plugs and that was the only bite before it started lightning so I called it quits. Been getting some smaller schoolies and Taylors and this was the first bigger fish in awhile so I am pretty bummed, Had to be a 30 lber or there abouts or a shark of some kind. definitely not a blue! :(
