Squantz Smallies

Buddy Harvey, Captain Mike, and I hit Squantz Saturday evening. Harvey and Mike were targeting walleyes from the beach with live alewives while I walked around with a few lures. We arrived at the beach around 4:30pm.
As Mike and Harvey waited for something to happen with their live alewives, I casted a shad Shallow Shad Rap SSR-7 from the beach but hit bottom most of the time. I also tried throwing a live alewife and lost a smallmouth in front of me.
Later I made my way over to the point by the cove where nothing happened. Saw Harvey land a smallmouth on an alewife.
I then went over to the pier and casted with the SSR-7. Caught a smallmouth about 11" there. Then I walked up onto the pier and threw my trusty silver shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4 out there. Caught 2 more smallmouths with 1 being around a pound. That one gave me a fight like a 3 pound largemouth.

Had a hit that seemed to be a trout. Saw another fisherman on the rocks to the left of the pier casting out with a Gulp Minnow and carefully twitching it on the bottom. He was getting many hits.
Once sunset arrived, the smallie bite died. I walked back over to the beach to join Harvey and Mike.
Harvey and Mike hadn't gotten any hits while I was at the cove.
I ate and took it easy while Harvey and Mike still had the bait out. We stayed til 10pm. Mike had 2 hits before we left. One of them seemed to be a brown because of the damage done to the alewife. The other took the bait.
So just like January, the Rapala Shad Rap lineup outdoes the alewife!
