West Side Pond, Goshen

Took a ride over to try my hand at some perch & bluegill today. I fished it earlier in the year without much success so I wasn't expecting much today. Got on the water around 9:30 AM and headed out to the deep water. I expected to find the bluegills schooled up there. I followed the contours at about the 20-25' depth and soon found some fish with the Humminbird right on the bottom where I expected. I rigged up a small curly tail on a 1/16 oz. lead head and dropped it down. Took a while but I enticed one of them to hit. Imagine my surprise when it broke the surface and was a nice calico, around 9" or so. I didn't even know they were any in this pond. Kept at it until around 1:30 or so and called it quits. Everything I boated was a calico; never hooked a perch or 'gill all day, just the calico's. I ended up keeping around a dozen or so. A couple of 11-12" fish, most were around 9-10". Tossed back about 6-8 minis under 8" or so. All in all it was nice day; only one other boat on the water and he left about an hour after I got there.
Looks like a fish fry for dinner!
