What St Croix series? Premier? Triumph? Sounds like a good buy no matter what the series. You can certainly "use" any rod you want in saltwater, just a good idea to rinse it off with the hose after you use it. I use a Premier 7' MF for light saltwater stuff. Great rod for 4" swim shad, sluggos, smaller bucktails, rapalas, etc. Caught plenty of decent stripers, blues, and albies on mine.

There is an intercostal series that has stainless steel guides on it. If you rinse it off it should not be to bad. There are huge diffrences in the series. The avid being the middle of the road. I like avids just fine and can usually get them for about 99.99.
