Seasonal Shift?
Message:
So Last night I busted out one of the InFisherman series of books on Smallmouth (yeah yeah, I know) and went through their seasonal patterns and the river section, looking for an edge on the smallies. I was interested to read/remember a call for the "seasonal shift" that is marked by hot days and cooler nights with the days getting shorter. It seems that fits the recent weather we've been having for the past week. This supposedly causes the fish to move and become more aggressive in "stocking up" on food, which I guess would explain why the fish that I've been catching have been bigger and better over the past week. (It certainly can't be my ability! :P ). I've also noticed a LOT of good fish coming up on the boards recently.
Anybody here comment on the state of the weather and seasonality? Does it matter? Is it playing a major factor in the lunkers turning up right now? Is fall really coming  ? Or is it really just a bunch of garbage?
P.S. The River section on smallmouth fishing in the InFisherman book SUCKS! ooh... look for the rocks... really!?

sevnseat, I'm a firm believer that the bass (smallmouth & largemouth) have some kind of metabolic timeclock in their brains that tells them the water is getting cooler and the days shorter. Hence they know when it is time to start stocking up (feed) for the cold winter months as everything even forage slows down during the extreme cold water months. This pattern reverses in the spring as they start feeding more as the water warms and the forage base starts to re-populate as a new year class of minnows are again swimming the waters the bass prowl. "Look for rocks" that's one hella of advice. Never seen smallmouth rivers with no rocks! :D
