Private Lake 3/10

After getting a few things done and going to a doctor's appointment Sunday, I got home before 4pm so decided to head out seeing daylight savings time started. Got to the private lake around 4:45pm and started off with a new for 2013 Jointed Shallow Shad Rap JSSR-7. On the second cast while doing a slow retrieve, I landed a 10" largemouth. After that nothing else on the Jointed Shallow Shad Rap. Switched over to a purpledescent Clackin Minnow CNM-7 and tried both retrieves with it. A 9" yellow perch shot up from underneath right near me and hit the lure. Set the hook and landed it. After that nothing else with the Clackin Minnow. Next lure was a traditional one for the lake, which is a helsinki shad Clackin Crank CNC-53. Stuck with the slow retrieve with the rod tip down but never had any hits or followers. Then I went with a bleeding original shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4. Nothing was interested in it. Last lure was the custom painted X-Rap Shad Shallow XRSH-6 that produced for me last time. Ended up landing a chubby 7" yellow while doing the jerk and 5 second pause retrieve. Once things slowed down I decided to head over to the spot that I caught the 18" largemouth at Saturday. Played around with the XRSH-6 and JSSR-7. Had a yellow follower the XRSH-6 and saw what looked like a nice sized largemouth's mouth open up for the lure before turning back and not hitting the lure. Hit the road around 6:15pm

with the water temps being so low, I have been having my best luck with jerkbaits. My fish have come on the lucky strike in pearl. Took me a while to learn how to use it, and getting better at working the lure, but you may want to try one. There not expensive either unless you get a megabass or lucky craft version.

Jerkbaits are the way to go this time of year. Did you ever know that smaller shallow lakes and ponds warm up much faster than your usual bigger and deeper lakes and ponds? Also, if you fish a certain body of water that hardly ever gets pressured, fish are bound to be more active than they usually would be for this time of year.
