Cast Net

I have a cast net that I have used many times for golden shiners. I can find a large school of them and when I throw the cast net, I never seem to get any and Im not sure why...any suggestions?

I dont use cast nets but here are a few things that popped into my mind: Does your net have heavy enough weights? Is your nets diameter too small so the fish are fast enough to get away? Are you casting your net correctly? And of course, do you have a big gaping hole in your net!! :D
