Ice Out Pond & Private Lake 3/16

Ventured out in the overcast skies Saturday and started at the ice out pond around 1:45pm. Stayed at the 2 coves and the 1 spot between the 2 coves. Played around with a glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-6 for a while and lost 1 largemouth before losing the lure. Later it started to snow lightly and winds picked up slightly. Switched over to a Texas rigged 4" pumpkinseed Berkley Power Worm. Retrieve I stuck with was 2 very slow cranks on the bottom before pausing for 5 seconds. That caught me a short 9" largemouth and had 2 other takers. Snow flurries eventually changed to steady snow showers and it got colder out. Headed over to the private lake around 3pm. Started off with the custom painted purple nurple X-Rap Shad Shallow XRSH-6 at my usual area. Tried both a very slow retrieve and a 1 jerk 5 second pause retrieve. Caught a 14.5" 1 pound 9 ounce largemouth with the jerk and pause retrieve. Tried throwing a silver shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4 but never hit anything with the very slow retrieve. Moved over to a shallow cove where bluegills and pumpkinseeds usually get stacked up. Threw a yellow perch Husky Jerk HJ-6 out there and did the jerk and pause but never had any hits. Headed over to the area where I've been doing well recently. 3 lures I played with were the XRSH-6, JSR-4, and a yellow perch Clackin Minnow CNM-7. Caught a keeper 8" yellow while doing a very slow retrieve with the JSR-4. Landed a 7" yellow and 3 largemouths while doing the jerk and pause with the XRSH-6. Caught a largemouth with the XRSH-6 while doing a very slow retrieve. Nothing bothered with the Clackin Minnow. Hit the road around 6:30pm All 5 largemouths at the private lake were the same size as if I caught the same fish 5 times, which was 14.5" 1 pound 9 ounces.
