Ice Out - New Gear - New Member

Hey all! This is my first post here on the boards....just wanted to introduce myself, I've been reading posts and tips etc. for years. My name is Shawn Sims and Ive been fishing CT waters for 26 years. A few things I wanted to mention 1. Hit my small ice out ponds Wednesday for 30 min. and yesterday for almost 2 hours with the yak. So far I haven't gotten anything my typical luck for early, early Bass season. I threw senkos, chatter baits, spinners, and jigs with nadda bite. 2. Today I'm going hit to hit Haddam area for Pike, hot water in Hartford and / or weathers field cove, mainly focusing on the river today. 3. I splurged with my tax return and picked up the Abu Garcia Revo Toro 50 with the blue handle. This thing has over 20lbs I think its 24lbs of drag! OMG so smooth and unbelievable, I love it...... I put it on a 7ft G Loomis GL2 jig / worm rod. This is by far the best baitcast setup Ive ever owned. I run 30 lb suffix braid and it casts so smooth and barely, barley ever get a backlash. I had my 3 best combos stolen last summer, so last summer i picked up the shimano c14 and the Shimano crucial rod, they are designed for each other, the drag is awesome. It's very nice probably the best spin combo Ive ever owned. But with this new Abu/ Loomis combo I'm losing sleep, and now I don't have to think about the goons that stole my gear last year! 4. I want to thank the guys that are out fishing and posting their success / unsuccessful stories. I read and get so motivated. HAHA I already got the YAK tied to the roof! This is a great board. My dad Al and I fish everything salt and fresh, since I could hold a pole he's been bringing me fishing. I'm 26 now and we still go together all the time. welcome aboard ya water is softening up, time to finish my boat project and get my butt out there .... :? so much work to do never feels like im makeing progress... see ya on the water guyz
