Eagleville

Went to Eagleville on Friday with my neighbor. The plan was for me to take out my (new to me) Ocean Kayak 13 to make sure it floats and try out my Humminbird depth finder, however we took his scanoe with the trolling motor instead.
Eagleville Lake is 83 acre dammed up section of the Willimantic River. The area is open year round, up to the Plains Rd. bridge which is north up in the river system. That area is closed once they start stocking trout until opening day. The east side of the dam area which used to house the mill for which the dam was created is now a parking lot with a recreation area up to the dam for fishing. Along the east side of the lake there are train tracks and trails that will get you to the water for shore fishing. The west side has houses and no real shore access for shore fishing, but there is a ramp for car top launch only.
The lake is very shallow, except for the main channel and an area on the west side where the house start and on the east side along the tracks just north of the first cove from the launch area. There is not much cover or structure on the bottom except for silt and some lily pad type plants.

We got on water around 11:00 AM and the air was still cool about 41 degrees, sun was just staring to come out, slight breeze out of the north and the lake was calm. We fished most of the lake and did not move into the river at all. I threw crankbaits, spinners, and worm and only caught one Fall fish which was a good size. My neighbor threw two crankbaints a black and silver shad rap and a #7 gold Rapala. He caught a Pickerel, Carppie and had a LMB but lost it before he got it to the boat. I did not see much life in the water, other than turtles. No bugs or crayfish. One school of minnows, three schools of perch and sun fish and a school of Fall fish. Saw a few LMB cruising and taking off very fast, but that was it. My guess is the water is still very cold as it is part of a river system so hopefully it will get better.
By the time we got off the water at 4:00 PM the wind was out of the north at about 26 MPH and there were white caps on the water.

loved fishing this place last year with my pontoon - dropped it in the water and stayed to the left - LOTS of vegetation under the surface, but still too cold there right now
