Lake Zoar 4/14

The morning started off as perfect top water weather Water was like glass across the whole river. Once the clouds disappeared and the sun came out we were battling wind and white caps all day. Fished a club event today! Winning bag was five fish with a total weight 13.9lbs. Lunker was 4.9lbs and second 4.6lbs caught by the same individual. Cabin Creek Spider parts on 1/4oz football jigs, both in Green Pumpkin did the trick. One other member caught two for a total of 3.9lbs on plastic black leeches. All fish were caught on the Oxford side in 20/25' of water along the steepest drop offs. I myself didn't fare as well. About 11:30am I hooked one well above three pounds on a Cabin Creek. Brought it to the boat, reached for the net and "GOne!!!" For the trout fisherman. A little heads up for opening day next week. The Cove near the dam and the town park are "LOADED WITH BIG TROUT." Leeches are the key! Could not keep them in the water today! All "a lot" were released safely. If all the trout hooked today on bass equipment were bass I'd be "I don't know! but I'd be something." The fish finder showed fish stacked from 20' down to the surface. All following bait balls and scattered bait I thought was debris in the water. Good luck to the Trouters next week. The Paumperaug River produced absolutely nothing.

Just a dumb question... I haven't fished Zoar since I was a little kid with my dad like 40 plus years ago. Does anybody keep and eat fish out of there with the PCB's and all?

I wouldn't but I don't eat fish. Strictly catch and release. DEEP has a consumption guide for various species.
