Rapala vs Daiwa

Got into the water at Remington with my waders on starting around 6:45pm. One surf fisherman who I've become familiar with was already out there wading.
2 lures I stuck with were the same ones that were producing on the Housy on 12/3/12, which were pearl grey shiner Flat Rap FLR-16 and chrome black purple Max Rap MXR-15. Setup was a Star Rods Aerial 8 footer, 3rd gen Penn 5500SS, and 17 lb Sufix Tritanium.
Not much was going on until it got darker and the sun went below the horizon. 2 other wading surf fishermen who I've been seeing in the evenings came by that time.
I got a nice hit on the FLR-16 closer to shore as the tide was still going out. The hit was one of those hard solid bites without any head shaking or pulling.
Followed the 2 surf guys out with the tide. One had a few hits here and there with an SP Minnow and the other tried throwing a Super Spook but had no explosions. I landed a short 12" schoolie with the MXR-15 and also lost what seemed to be a bluefish no bigger than 10" right in front of me! The 2 surf guys then left because 1 of them didn't bring gloves and his hands were cold.
I kept following the tide out and the familiar face came back after having to make a call on his cell. He threw the SP Minnow out there.
Later I lost a keeper on the FLR-16. Set the hook on it and had it on for about 10 seconds before it spit the hook as I let it start to run. Didn't want to force it in.
The familiar face man had 2 striper hits on the SP Minnow and said he was getting other hits that he could tell was his plug hitting bigger bait fish. I got 2 more of those aggressive hits on the FLR-16 and had a swirl in front of me when taking the lure out. I was feeling those same bumps against the bait too.
Both of us started making our way in and casted towards the discharge and popular point. He had 1 hit on the SP and 1 explosion on a popper. I took a mullet Saltwater Skitter Pop SSP-12 out but never got any explosions or swirls.
Both of us called it a night and walked back to the parking area together around 8:45pm and got to exchange cells.
Nice guy named Jose who is a smart surf fisherman and caring person. Not like many other Bridgeporters who poach, joke, drink, lazy chunking, tease, don't know what a plug is, etc. He was impressed with the action and looks of the Max Rap and Flat Rap. Asked me where I got it and how much I paid. Told him about the deals on Ebay and also about the price for a Sargus 6000. He right away said he'll buy from me if I get more of the good deals. He said he wants to get into those 2 Rapalas.
Surf fishing wasn't as good as Saturday but still had some action. Couldn't tell if the bait our plugs were bumping against were shad, herring, or bunker. The fish I lost and said looked like a bluefish hit the lure right in front of me before right away jumping out of the water and doing 2 more shaky jumps before losing it.
