Ice Out Pond & Small Pond 4/18
Message:
Seeing it was overcast out and NWS was calling for showers later in the evening, I decided to hit the ice out pond to see how good the bite would be. Got there around 3:30pm and had a slight SE breeze with occasional gusts up to 10 mph. First lure I threw was the Texas rigged 4" pumpkinseed Berkley Power Worm. Right as I casted it out bluegills were going crazy for it. Gave it a few more casts before switching over to a brown trout Flat Rap FLR-6. Had a feeling that the bite was on seeing how fast the fish started hitting the Berkley. Made 3 laps around the pond hitting all open areas. Lite topwater twitching with a 2 or 3 second pause seemed to be what had the bass interested in. Caught a total of 7 largemouths and 1 bluegill. Largemouths were no bigger than 14" 1 pound. Later around 5:30pm I decided to head over to the small pond at the funeral home to see how active the bass, perch, and bigger bluegills and seeds were. Didn't get much attention as I did a slow steady retrieve with the FLR-6 so switched over to a glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-6. Suspending stop and go retrieves didn't have much happening so last lure was a hot mustard muddler X-Rap XR-4. Did a constant light twitching retrieve to get the teaser tail to dance around and grab the fishes' attention. Ended up landing 2 small bluegills and 2 dinky bass. Lost a keeper pumpkinseed and a nice bass and had lots of taps by bluegills and perch. Also saw a crappie come shooting up from the deep. Hit the road around 7:30pm.
