Sometimes fate plays a hand in what happens where you fish, and what you catch. Ben & I decided to fish Messerschmidt Pond instead of Mudge because it fishes easier on a windy day then Mudge does. And also because we havn't been there in a few years. In 4 trips there the largest bass I had caught was 3lbs. We got on the water at 8am. It was cloudy, warm, and no wind. The water temp was 68deg in the am warming to 71deg when we left at 6pm. We started with top water baits. I threw a buzzbait while Ben opted for a Spit N Image And for the 1st 3 hours Ben was really putting it to me. He had 6 bass and 1 pickerel to only 1 pickerel for me. His largest was 3lbs [img:4cc7f47d60]http://www.ctfisherman.com/ubbthreads/attachments/jimfish-5905-3lbMesserschmidtBass.jpg[/img:4cc7f47d60] By 11am the breeze picked up and what little sunshine there was just about disapeared. I finally catch my 1st bass on a Findbass Shiverstick(Senko Typ Bait) And a short time later I also catch a 3lb2oz bass. I was working the dropshot by one of these dropoffs when I thought I was stuck on a stump. When the line just takes off. Don't yeh just love it when that stump turns out to be a 4lb 3oz bass. [img:4cc7f47d60]http://www.ctfisherman.com/ubbthreads/attachments/jimfish-5907-4lb3ozMesserschmidtBass.jpg[/img:4cc7f47d60] Ben finally gets bact to the catching with a nice 2lb 5oz bas fishing the dropoffs with a crankbait. [img:4cc7f47d60]http://www.ctfisherman.com/ubbthreads/attachments/jimfish-5908-2lb5ozMesserschmidtBass.jpg[/img:4cc7f47d60] I caught a few bass in the pads flipping a tubebait. So I decided to go back to the area where I caught my 1st bass. Some nice pads and some really nice falldowns there. Ben looses a real, real nice bass on a falldown. It went under the tree and pulled free. And a short time later I get the biggest surprise at this pond I could imagine. I hook into a giant bass in the pads on a HookerZ 5" tubebait. It took all my strength with 50#braid and a flippin' stick to yank it out of the pads. A real beauty at 6lb 6oz. [img:4cc7f47d60]http://www.ctfisherman.com/ubbthreads/attachments/jimfish-5909-6lb6ozMesserschmidtBass.jpg[/img:4cc7f47d60] And a little further on in the pads again I get another beauty at 3lb 8oz on the tube. [img:4cc7f47d60]http://www.ctfisherman.com/ubbthreads/attachments/jimfish-5910-3lb8ozMesserschmidtBass.jpg[/img:4cc7f47d60] We fish our way back to the launch with a few more bass. We finished with 24bass a few pickerel. a couple of crappie and perch. This is one time I can thank the weather forcasters for making a bad forcast. The sun never came out in the afternoon and the wind wasn't as bad as they said it would be.
