Hatch Pond 4-27

Today was my first trip out this year. Decided on Hatch as a friend of mine mentioned that he and another fella hit the calico's and bluegill pretty good earlier in the week. Got on the water around 10 and fished until 1:30. It was a slow day but managed to boat around 8 small crappie and one 10" largemouth. I had recently re-strung my reels and had a few snarls to deal with but was expecting that. Didn't get skunked so that was a good start to the season. There were 2 ospreys working the water as well the entire time I was there. They were really fun to watch. Saw them dive in about 5 times but never saw them lift off with anything in the claws. A few geese, a swan and a couple of ducks also. I did have some weird stuff going on with the fish finder, though. No matter how I adjusted it, I had a lot of interference and clutter from the surface down to around 8' or so all day. Nothing I tried would eliminate it. I know there is usually an algae bloom late spring/early summer that pretty much blocks out everything down to 10-11 feet but the water didn't look too bad, just couldn't get the electronics to read through it. I'm in a rowboat so its not like there is some other electrical device to cause this. Anyone else fish there this spring and see anything similar on your electronics?

The transducer on my Humminbird 798ci HD SI recently went bad. At least I and, based on my description of the problem, a Humminbird rep think so. Although the temperature sensor works fine and I get a very faint image at very low speeds, other than determining the depth at low speed, it's pretty useless. The Humminbird rep told me to send it in for replacement under warranty.

That's interesting, I had similar issue with my humminbird piranha 170. For som reason I had a lot of interference and the finder kept jumping from 3 to 7 ft. I figured it was because of all the debris in the water.
