Beardsley Park 5/1
Message:
Heard there was a recent stocking done on the Pequonnock at Beardsley Park so Wednesday I arrived around 3pm to find many trout.
Lures I played with in the stretch by the ballfields included glass ghost Husky Jerk HJ-6, purple sunfire HJ-6, helsinki shad HJ-6, yellow perch Clackin Minnow CNM-7, brown trout Flat Rap FLR-6, silver shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4, shad Shallow Shad Rap SSR-5, and hot mustard muddler X-Rap XR-6.
Was getting lots of followers while doing a steady retrieve and had 1 hit on the FLR-6. While doing jerk and pause rertrieves with the HJ-6, CNM-7, and XR-4 I was getting lots of fish circling the lure and coming to look at it before saying no.
Later I headed up to the Trumbull Rd bridge. Found the spot where lots of trout were. 2 lures that had them going were the XR-4 and helsinki shad HJ-6.
Landed 2 brookies around 12" with the XR-4 and 1 10" brookie with the HJ-6.
As the evening wore on and it got closer to sunset, that's when the lure bite turned off and insects started swarming the water surface. Decided to switch over to a 1 1/2" piece of a Creme soft plastic worm rigged with a single hook weightless. That had them going as I'd lightly twitching it with the current or slowly twitch it across the surface. Had a lot of followers and hits and many swirls on the surface with 3 surface hits.
Headed back down to the ballfields area and played topwater with the weightless soft plastic. Caught a 9" rainbow and missed out on a number on explosions.
Hit the road around 8:15pm
