Messerschmidt Pond 5/2 - First Pickerel
Message:
Took an hour after work Thursday and went with my brother to Messerschmidt as it's nearby where I live. I've been fishing mostly saltwater these days but I want to get back into the local freshwater as much as I can. Got to the west side of the pond around 7pm. We both started throwing Senkos rigged wacky stile. Not half a second after my brother's first cast hit the water he hooked up with a couple pound largemouth. I hooked up with a smaller one not too long after that. For a while we just had occasional hits from smaller fish and eventually I got a healthy 21" Pickerel. Great looking fish. After releasing it, with the sun going down and it temperature dropping, it pretty much went quiet. Tried a few small jigs and spinner baits in various spots but no luck after that. Can't complain though, was a good evening. Brian

Congrats on your first pickerel! I enjoy catching pickerel. They're fun fish and love how they come darting out of weeds and structure to grab your lure. I've even seen them come darting out fast and furious as I'm doing a steady constant jerking retrieve. Love their explosions on topwater!
