Topwater 5/9

Low tide for Bridgeport was scheduled for 5:46pm Thursday. My dad and I hit the sandbar at Remington just after 5pm. There were still a few sprinkles around and the wind was light out of the south and southwest.
My dad brought his schoolie setup while my setup was an 8 foot Star Rods Aerial Surf Penn Sargus 5000.
My dad stuck with an older red head Heddon popper most of the time while he also threw a few 4" plugs including Rebel Minnow and Yo Zuri Crystal Minnow.
Lures I played with included pearl grey shiner Flat Rap FLR-16, chrome spotted minnow Max Rap MXR-17, chrome purple black Max Rap MXR-15, flake purple ghost Max Rap MXR-15, and mullet Saltwater Skitter Pop SSP-12.
Before my dad got out there I had a hit and swirl on the FLR-16 within the first few casts. After that there wasn't anymore action on the FLR-16 so I played with the Max Raps. Nothing hit the Max Raps.
Seeing my dad was sticking with his topwater, that's when I decided to switch over to the SSP-12. From that point til an hour or so after low tide we had a topwater bite going.
My dad landed a 16" schoolie and I landed a 20" fish. Both of us each lost 1 fish. My dad said his felt lighter than the 16"er he landed and mine looked to be of size while it was splashing on the surface after setting the hook. We each had a number of swirls and explosions too.
Bite died about an hour after low tide. I tried playing with those plugs again but couldn't get a bite.
We were back at the car by 7:15pm.

Michael,
Super consistant reports..... good stuff buddy
Have you tried the lower pequonnic? The herring run is enourmious this year, there's gotta be some pigs hanging in those waters. I've never done it in the spring but have always wanted to. Let me know if you have experienced that, i'm interested.
