naugatuck river carp
Message:
I went to the naugatuck river in ansonia yesterday in hopes of getting into some smallmouth, but didn't get hit on anything. I tried soft plastics, poppers, and inline spinners. I heard a loud splash, like someone threw a large rock in the water. I look up and I see a HUGE carp entirely out of the water. I never fished for carp and i'm not sure why they were jumping. Just figures I'd give a heads up to any carp fishermen out there. Anyway, I tried this spot several time last year around late summer early fall and I would always catch something on spinners, whether it was yellow pirch, fallfish, or smallies, so I'm not sure why I wasn't getting hit, hopefully the smallmouth fishermen in that area have some solutions for me.

Im not positive but i believe when carp "mate" they do rolls like tarpon and splash the water. The reason i say this is because on candlewood i was jigging and catching trout and smallies and perch then i see huges splashes and what looked like a musky (orangeish body) so i threw huge rapalas and spinners and spoons and then when we got in close to the weeds i saw a HUGE at least 40lb carp cruising along and it did the roll thing and then disappeared.

You're correct NEF. Carp roll on the surface and jump while mating.
