Candlewood Lake 5/30/2013

Fished Candlewood today. The Skeeter has finally been christened with regurgitated Alewives and Craw Fish. Started out on the water at 7:00am. Started north of Danbury Bay with top water. Got loads of blow ups on my Bone Chuggen Spook but couldn't hook up. Down sized to a normal spook and it was game on. Picked up six in an hour and a half. All about the size shown in the pictures. Bite died and headed to Danbury Bay. My partner never fished before and couldn't get the hang of top water so I rigged him up with a whacky rigged Senko in Green Pumpkin with Red Flake. Instantly nails a four pounder. (Not Shown). The fish inhaled the hook so I reset him up again with a #3 Circle Hook. Ten minutes later he nails a two pounder. My Spook isn't getting anymore hits so I switch to a Whacky Rig. It was game on after that. Total bass for the day caught 15.. all around two/three pounds except for his lunker. Lost at least seven more. I didn't even count the six/eight inch'er that kept nailing my spook. I decided to try Fluorocarbon after I swore I'd never use the stuff again. Set my drag lose and wore the fish down to the net. That worked well for about five fish. Then my rod bends in half. Drag Screaming. It's a beauty. It tries to jump several times. I manage to keep her down. She fought for a good three minutes. Every time I got her to the boat she would run again. My partner, not experienced with a net is struggling to get her in. Finally she's in. Go to lift her out. With one last thrust she jumps straight out of the net, snaps the line and swims off. Would have been my Best Personal Smallie Ever. She was big. But that's fishing. I'm not big into the picture thing but my buddy wanted some photos to show the wife and kids. I'm big into taking people fishing that have never fished or don't have the resources to fish the big lakes. The smile on my buddies face every time he caught a fish was worth a million bucks. I have a bunch more photos but the 90deg heat today seems to have done some funky stuff to my SD Card in both my camera and phone. It was a hassle just to get these up. While in Danbury Bay I spotted three Coy Fish at about two pounds each. Can't believe idiots actually dump non native species into our waters. These things were huge. Looks like you had a great day, I use fluro a lot, do you find mono to be better?

I get much less breaks on mono. I don't really see the difference with the line stretch that everyone claims. I used Flouro a lot before and lost alota fish. (Vanish was my biggest problem) A few told me it's not the line but the drag so I loosened it today and did much better tiring the fish instead of trying to muscle it up. More hook spits than line breaks. It's gonna take a while for me to build confidence in the Flouro. I just hate it when I know there's a fish swimming around with my hook in it.
