with this unit all i want to do is navigate, so what i see to install is a red and black wire ,obviously red to the hot fuse and black to ground now do i need to put in a toggle switch for that or run it direct? now there are many more smaller colored wire that do different thing but i don't think i'll be needing them.

As long as the unit has an on/off switch, I see no use for a toggle switch. Which type of unit?
