Penfield Reef 7/6
Message:
Member GKloyagin (AKA Genna) and I hit the morning incoming at the Reef. We arrived around 4:45am.
Genna stuck with a lightweight chartreuse bucktail jig rigged with squid strips. Lures I played with included flake blue Max Rap MXR-13, shad Shallow Shad Rap SSR-9, silver shad Jointed Shallow Shad Rap JSSR-7, chrome Skitter Pop SP-9, pearl grey shiner Flat Rap FLR-10, smelt BX Minnow BXM-10, and Storm Jointed Minnow Stick.
As we made our way out, Genna and I both caught a 12" porgy. I caught mine with the MXR-13.
Sea robins were pretty thick on both sides and I was getting many on certain lures.
Both of us hit a few fluke, with Genna getting 4 and me 2. Both of us each got 1 legal Penfield Reef keeper. Got mine on the BXM-10.
As we started making out way in, Genna decided to take his knife and check the fish's stomachs to see what they were eating. He found nothing in their bellies, which meant there was no bait around.
Got into plenty more sea robins on the Norwalk side as we headed in.

Good report Mike, I've been meaning to make it out there. I've heard the same thing from my friends concerning a lack of bait in the area. At least you're still the sea robin magnet!

One sub-report I have from that outing is how the Rapala of the day was the small JSSR-7. I was hitting tons of sea robins on that lure and got 1 of the 2 fluke with it.
Jointed Shallow Shad Rap is new for 2013 and is simply a shallow diving version of the Jointed Shad Rap. Can't wait for a JSSR-9!
