Connecticut River 8/3/2013

Fished the Connecticut River yesterday. Launched out of Haddam Meadows a 6:30am. Started out overcast then rain spurts. Just enough to be forced to don rain gear then it would stop. Headed North and fished all the way up to the Pratt Power Plant. The Bass fishing was decent to start. Caught 12 by 9:30am. All between 2.5 and 4.5lbs. I jigged most of the time which worked well with Green Pumpkin Color Bitsy Bugs and Paca Craw Trailers. At 9:30am, as the weather front started to pass on an outgoing tide the bite shut off like a light switch. From the power plant we headed to Hamburg Cove and beyond. A few small ones here and there but nothing impressive. Early in the morning I caught this! At one point, the only way I could describe the hit is a baseball bat hitting a tree. This Pike, my first ever fought like a SOB. Considering I only had 12lb Fluorocarbon P-Line Clear I had to play it for a minute or two. Before I realized what was on my line I thought I had a 6+ Pound Smallie. After a awesome fight I landed this. I hooked another bu the P-Line didn't stand a chance. Felt the hit then nothing. Cut the line like a knife.
