westport 8/11 humpback porgies
Message:
fished my usual spot in westport today. got there at 3:45pm to fish the out going high tide. for the last two weeks i've been stuck with the tail end of the out-going tides....it sucked! the spot was "UNUSUALLY" full with sunbathers today! :( i counted fifteen women spread out in that little space  . i was just able to squeeze in on the left and throw out chunks parallel to the concrete wall/rock jetty. At 5pm enough people had left and i was able to get a second line in the water. one of the regulars had decent luck last week with keeper porgies and one fluke so i decided to give it a shot!.... take a break from the sea robbin juggernaut! bait shops were out of sandworms so i was stuck with clam strips( ZERO luck) all week. this weekend i had sandworms on a porgy rig! FYI:the tide was bad last week so i can't 100% blame the clams. by 7:00pm i had caught TOO many sea robins.1 14"-16" striper and 7 keeper porgies! the first two porgies were "HUMPBACKS" well over 12"....threw them.. plus one more back a seagull stole one,and i gave the last three to a regular who was hanging out with his kids. As the tide dropped, the porgies did seem to get a bit smaller.the smallest was just barely at the 10.5" minimum when i left at 7:15PM.

HAHAHA! that's funny!good point  normally... that's a great thing, but this spot is only about 75ft wide so there's not a lot of wiggle room with that much "traffic". apart from some of the beauties in the water, there's canoes, kayaks, paddle boards and body surfers launching in and out of this space.it gets a little hairy when they swim or paddle into a braid line!
