Surf Casting Penfield Reef in Fairfield
Message:
Hi guys,
I'm a regular freshwater fisher, but have recently moved to Fairfield and got the surf casting bug pretty bad. It's hard to beat heading out to beach, enjoying the wind, sun, and waves, and fishing at the same time!
A good friend and I have started up the surf casting in June. Seemed like we had good luck at that point, caught a few stripers while night fishing with plugs, tons of sea robbins, a few fluke.
Now it just seems dead out there. Went a few nights and got barely a nibble. Pulled in a very small striper. Easy to catch sea robbins when you want to but we're hoping for blues and stripers!
Is it just dead this time of year at Penfield? Do the stripers come back in October?

That place among most has been dead this year. Its not you, its been a very tough year for all of us for the most part on this side of the state and even most on the other side. All that rain months ago pushed the bait right through our state when it was coming in.

Fishfiner Wade said it right. June rain and lack of bait has made it a very bad year in the western Sound.
