Skitter Pop Schoolies

Headed back to the Fayerweather jetty Tuesday to fish the sandy flats of the beach and wade into the shallower areas on the Black Rock Harbor side. Arrived just after 1:30pm with low tide scheduled for 3:10pm. Started in Black Rock Harbor and stuck with the FLR-10 and SP-9. The FLR-10 landed me 5 sea robins and had no swirls or explosions on the SP-9. On the turn of the tide I checked out the sandy flats on the beach side. Couldn't fish there due to 2 to 3 foot waves cause by a steady 8 to 12 mph southeast wind. Went back over to Black Rock Harbor where I landed another sea robin with the FLR-10 and later saw a school of bunker with blues chasing them. They were just out of reach but had 1 nice explosion on the SP-9 when I was able to get just close enough to the school. Once the tide was too high to be in Black Rock Harbor, I went to the city boat ramp where I waded out. Caught 2 more sea robins with the FLR-10. Later towards sunset, schoolies got active on the surface. Caught a total of 6 schoolies ranging from 14 to 18 inches with the SP-9. Saw a local surf casting buddy there who was throwing some bigger topwaters and doing a faster retrieve than me. He had 1 explosion and caught a schoolie while I was getting more action with the SP-9. I sold him the other SP-9 I had with me and once he threw that out there and followed the retrieve I was doing, he was into the schoolies as well. Hit the road around 7:30pm

He was throwing a floating popper about 4 1/2" and doing a faster chugging. Once I showed him the retrieve that caught me the big tailors, he set the hook on 2 blues.
