Winchester Lake

Took a ride up to Winchester Lake on Saturday. There was about 4-5" of ice with slush / water / yuck on top. I fished just off the boat launch from about 10 to 2. Got one (1?) perch while jigging but couldn't buy another bite out of that hole or any I drilled near it. I also had tip ups set with piker shiners...had a flag go off in about 3 ft of water and lost my shiner, but that was it all day.
There were about 4 or 5 other guys out there, across from the boat launch on the opposite shore. Between them just 1 small pickerel, although one of them fought a pike all the way to the hole and lost it (never had the hook in him, just refused to let go of the shiner).
There was one other guy that ventured further up the lake but he came back empty handed too.
Was good to get the edge off a bit, but really would have expected more action that early in the season from un-harassed fish.
Now if the weather will cooperate....

Sometimes it's nice just to get out. With the cold coming this week the all the melting should turn to glass.
