First Striper of the Year

Was hearing good reports about the local discharge so Wednesday I went there. Arrived around 12:30pm with tide going out as high tide was scheduled for 10:34am. Setup with the F&S Inferno/PENN Fierce 2000/Spiderwire Stealth Braid 10lb. A few Rapalas I threw were purpledescent Clackin Minnow CNM-11, tennessee olive shad Clackin Minnow CNM-9, silver blue Husky Jerk HJ-12, spotted minnow Saltwater X-Rap SXR-10, and glass ghost CNM-11. The reason why I was throwing those lures is because I heard the stripers were being aggressive and looking for a faster jerk and pause retrieve, whether it be bottom bouncing or a suspending jerkbait. Eventually caught a 14" schoolie with the SXR-10. Saw it come up while I had the lure paused. A few others were there but only 1 of them reported catching a 21"er with a soft plastic before I got there. Stayed for a while throughout the evening after sunset but never got into anything else. Heard splashing for a bit and saw some action in another area. Hit the road around 6:30pm. Gonna head back Thursday.
