New Personal Best CT Keeper
Message:
Monday I decided to sleep into the afternoon and then check on the latest NWS forecast. They were originally talking about 15mph NW winds until I saw they changed it to a steady 10mph east. I decided to head down to the striper spot and spend the rest of the evening there depending on the bite. Arrived around 4:30pm.
Setup was the Okuma/Penn Fierce and lure was the pearl grey shiner FLR-10. Retrieve was a slow steady.
First spot didn't produce anything after 10 or so casts.
Moved over to another spot and after 5 casts I set the hook. I felt lots of weight which meant do that second hook set. Once I did that second hook set it started running. After getting it in closer to shore, it took 2 more short runs before it quickly tired out.
Once I landed that striper and noticed the leak I covered still had a bit open, I decided to give both spots another 10 to 15 casts and if I don't get into much then head home seeing I already had the keeper and not wanting to be in the water much longer with the leak.
Never got another hit so hit the road around 5:30pm.
Got home and measured and weighed the catch, resulting in a new personal best CT keeper going 36" 17 pound 7 ounces. Amazing how a small 4" Rapala can still catch you a big fish like this!
