Fresh water near stamford ct?

I would like to try Fresh water but don't have time to drive up state. I know of some lakes and ponds around here but don't know if they are fishable. any insight would be helpful!

Mianus River but access is the issue there.
Rippowam River is good for trout but you will have to wait till opening day.

Where along the Rippowam river? and yeah i've been to Mianus with no luck, not really sure if i was even in a decent fishing spot or not.
