Housy 5/8

Jeff and I hit the rest of the outgoing Thursday thinking the conditions were good for a striper bite. We each brought our 7 footers while Jeff had 30 pound braid on a Spinfisher V and I had 10 pound heavy duty copolymer mono on a Fierce 3000.
Jeff tried throwing the glass ghost SXR-10, bunker Storm Shad, and a few SP Minnows but wasn't getting any hits. I tried throwing the pearl grey shiner FLR-10, purpledescent BXM-10, and spotted minnow SXR-10 with no hits.
Later once it was getting closer to dead low and I was throwing the FLR-10, I get one of those stiff hits without any pulling or head shaking. I set the hook and felt weight. The fish started taking a short run but I was able to start to get it closer to me as it kept tension before starting to run again. Right as it started running the second time it broke free due to me not putting any 4X VMC trebles on the lure, cause it took the hook.
3 casts or so later I get another one of those hits and set the hook. This one had line going. But once it took me into the current the line snapped.
That's when Jeff switched over to a silver FLR-10 and started hitting schoolies no bigger than 20". I switched over to a purpledescent FLR-10 and had 2 hits.
Once it was turn of the tide and things slowed down for Jeff, we hit the road.
Seeing water temps have finally hit the 50 degree mark, it's looking like I'll be bringing my 8 footer with the heavier, stronger 30 pound braid to the Housy now.
Just goes to show how a small 4" plug can still get you into a big fish, as long as it's the perfect matching color.
