late1970's MONTAGUE surf rod...still useable????

three weeks ago i picked up a late 70's montauk setup that was 30 minutes from being thrown in a dumpster.a bunch of PENN fishing rods and reels had been stored in the rafters of a garage for close to 40 years!!
this setup has a first gen PENN 704spinfisher(the "GREENIE") and a one piece 9.5ft "the royal family" surf rod..... made by the MONTAGUE company
both rod and reel are in great shape :D
you guys think that rod is still good to go???
there's one post about a 60's carp rod(i think) being refurbished...but a 40 yr old surf rod!?!?!?
it's very tempting..id love to fish with the setup! :D but i'd sure hate to break the rod :(
