The Reef 8/21

Member Chunkin4Blues (Chris) and I hit Penfield Reef Thursday afternoon. Low tide for Black Rock was scheduled for 3:14pm and we started walking out on the Reef around 1:30pm. Chris had his 8' Mojo/Spinfisher V/30lb Power Pro setup while I had my 7' Star Rods Aerial Jetty Surf/Fierce 3000/14lb Fireline. As the tide kept going out we hit a number of spots. The Bridgeport side was choppy due to a steady 8 mph southeast wind but we fished both sides. Snappers were active with the silversides close to the Reef. On the Bridgeport side, Chris had a schoolie explode just a few feet in front of him while throwing a blue chartreuse SSP-12. I caught a dinky snapper on a shad SP-9 in the same area. On the Norwalk side was where we got into more action. Chris had a sea robin grab the rear teaser tail of his needlefish right in front of him as he let the lure dangle on the surface. I landed 4 sea robins with a chrome FLR-10 and lost a tailor that felt about 5 or 6 pounds with the XRW-13. Also had a schoolie explode on the XRW-13 right in front of me. I was surprised no fluke ever touched the FLR-10 or Chris's SP Minnows. I only had 1 other swirl in front of me with the XRW-13. Once the tide got higher and was coming in fast, we were back on land by 4:45pm.
