Mondo Pond 10/23
Message:
Thursday I arrived at Mondo Ponds just after 3pm. North winds didn't start picking up til the evening got closer and skies were mostly cloudy before becoming overcast later. As I moved around I played with a number of lures. Some areas were weedless and water levels were nice. One spot produced a 1 pound cookie cutter on the legendary purple nurple FLR-8. Later I got that lure stuck on a branch underwater  One other spot produced a 9" bass on a custom spinner. Never had any bluegills, crappie, or yellows hit any soft plastics I threw and no pickerel or bass hit a HJ-8 no matter what stop and go jerking retrieve I did. The only 2 other signs of action I had were what seemed to be a small pickerel hit the Baby Torpedo from behind and having a dinky bass hit the same spinner right in front of me before spitting it. Hit the road just after 6pm.

Found out from Cornell University's All About Birds that a certain bird I observed was the common night hawk. Saw a small flock of them feeding on insects over the main pond for no more than 5 minutes before they left. Timing was around sunset.

Mondo pond is close to me. I see Grey Herons there all the time too, they are huge....look like dinosaur. Haven't had great luck at Mondo pond, but have seen people catch some big catfish and decent size bass (2nd pond). I will be getting out there in the yak....which changes everything. Always wanted to fish off that middle island hehe Wondering if there are any Carp in there....will know this year.
