trolling motor on a kayak

So i add a trolling motor to my kayak and the very first day I went to test it this very nice guy told me, that i have to have it register and i have to have a captain license to be able to used whit the motor. I didn't knew that! So if i get a kayak whit pedal drive like the hobee, i have to have it register, here in CT???? Or is just wen add a battery or gas motor??

You only need to register. It will cost you about 6 or 7 dollars a year for registration I don't have a captains license and Ive never gotten pulled over
