tachometer pegged on the wrong side of the pin - 2005 yamaha

over the weekend the tachometer (analog) went crazy. jumped all around and eventually got stuck on the underside of the pin (went as far as it could go clockwise till it hit the pin). and now it is pretty much stuck there. engine is running fine. after a couple of crude attempts to fix (i.e. disconnecting the battery, checking for loose connections at the tachometer and the engine). no luck. any recommendations for either troubleshooting or a good mechanic?
