It's been a busy week after a great Labor Day weekend. The weather was perfect for enjoying the water. Lower rivers and harbors from the CT River west are choked with adult bunker, while peanuts were all over Pine Island and the mouth of the Thames. Lot's of smaller bait is washing across the reefs. Schools of bluefish from a few pounds to double digits are popping up all over the eastern Long Island Sound and hitting anything from larger surface lures to smaller presentations such as Deadly Dicks. Look for the birds and throw it out there. Chances are you'll hook up. Some of the outer reefs have been holding schoolies willing to bust up on the surface right through the day. I had a lot of luck on epoxy flies to mimic the smaller bait that is flooding in, usually attached to a hookless, slim Kastmaster type lure with 12'-18" of 15lb. flouro on a spinning rod. When your arms get tired, switch over to some bottom fishing for dinner plate sized porgies or black sea bass. Nice sized porgies! They must have given you good pulls. I've been seeing a lot of 1 1/2+ pound porgies landed at Seaside.
